Erebus
I made it up to Erebus! And all I have time to show you is pictures.
Spectacular day. The ice edge (where sea ice gives way to open ocean) is much closer to McMurdo than it was at this time last year, which is great--more penguins, seals, and whales closer to town. Plus, the ice edge is just beautiful. Open water in Antarctica. It's cool.
The Erebus ice tongue (the funky scalloped feature), a glacier coming off the flank of Erebus.
Installing a site near the hut. I got dropped off by the helicopter, and got to skidoo to the site just like old times. It was great to be home! I did feel a bit dopey from the altitude, though. Completing coherent sentences was a bit of a challenge, but that's nothing all that unusual.
Work. Yes, I get paid for this.

Posted by: kevin -- (fellow former golfiteno) on December 8, 2003 05:14 PMHello from Sunny Florida...
Stumbled across your blog quite by accident, a link posted on my "Yahoo" page...but after reading your "What I do" blog, I felt compelled to share a few thoughts...What you do, and your site are most fascinating (I did read the whole thing btw)...the pics of Antarctica are awesome to say the least...I live in a place where its generally wall to wall people, and bumper to bumper...etc...so to witness the stark beauty you shared in your photos was really a treat..(gives me a better understanding of why "Superman" would have his "Fortress of Solitude" in such a similiar place...and when I consider the fact that you are living in that environment on a daily basis, its quite mind boggling actually...so hats off to you girl, for a job well done...thanks so much for sharing your site,(I'll be back to check out the updates for sure)...stay safe, and have a Very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year...
Best Wishes, Peace...James "Dog" Daly
Just wishing you people a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year , I enjoy seeing the photos and reading the stories. You all are crazy. I'd love to be there too. I am in Upper Michigan and the weather here is probably similar to there (lol)
Just becareful and safe , I hope that all your projects go well .http://ww12.e-tractions.com/snowglobe/globe.htm If you can , take a look at this , it will warm you people up with some laughter.
I am utterly fascinated by your work. I read your whole explanation of what you do. You also are a very good writer. Have you ever thought that you might want to teach?
Please keep sharing your photos and good luck.
